What you need:
- Suitable perennials
- Compost
- Garden soil
- Sand or grit
- Trowel
- Watering wand or spray bottle
Many groundcovers and perennials can be planted in the crevices of a dry stone wall.

Start by packing the crevices with soil. A good mix is 3 parts clean garden soil, 2 parts compost, and 2 parts grit or sand.

Remove the plant from its pot and scoop out enough soil from the crevice to accommodate the root ball.

Insert the root ball into the planting hole. Firm it in well, adding additional soil if necessary.

It may be necessary to break up individual plants in order to fit them into the crevices.

Continue planting in this fashion until the wall is sufficiently populated with plants.

Water the plants either by watering from the top of the wall or by misting them with a spray bottle. It's very important to keep the soil moist until the plants have established themselves. Care should be taken, however to ensure the soil isn't washed out of the nooks and crannies of the wall.
